Description

A True Kentucky favorite. Derby-Pie® has been a southern tradition for more than 40 years. Made from a secret family recipe, Derby-Pie® combines rich semi sweet chocolate with English walnuts for a truly decadent experience.

The Derby-Pie® was created in 1950 by the Melrose Inn in Prospect, Kentucky as a specialty pastry. The restaurant’s owners and Derby-Pie® creators were Walter and Leaudra Kern, who constantly researched the optimal recipe for their creation. They were assisted by their son George Kern. The name “Derby-Pie®” was chosen because the various family members each had a different name for the creation, so to resolve the naming quandary they put the various names in a hat, and pulled out the paper which said “Derby-Pie®”.

Today, the 4th generation continues creating the world famous Derby-Pie®. Slowly and carefully using only the finest ingredients and focusing on quality before quantity.  Kern’s offers the Derby-Pie® in two sizes, 9″  pie and a smaller tart version, suitable for a single serving.  In addition, they recently introduced the first new addition in almost 50 years, the Golden Pecan Pie, with all the Southern you could ever ask for.

To enjoy your Derby-Pie®, it’s recommend you slice the pie frozen then warm it in the oven at 350 degrees for about 16 minutes. These 9” pies have a suggested serving size of 8, but slice according to your hearts desire. Once you receive your pie, you’re welcome to throw it in the refrigerator until you’re ready to enjoy (this method keeps the pie for 6 weeks) OR enjoy within 6 days once the pie has reached room temperature.
